photographerPhotography is one of the most interesting fields to work in, both as a profession and as a hobby. If you are good at photographing things, you will be glad to know that there is a big demand for you nowadays. With the incredibly vast network of advertisements, both online and offline, marketing companies and image platforms are always investing in decent works from the most basic photographers. By basic, we mean anyone who knows how to use a camera and understands the basics of colors etc. If you are reading this then there is a chance that you are familiar with those concepts and are looking to monetize your collection. But it isn’t necessary, however, that you are doing it the right way. So to make sure you have all the basics covered, we are sharing some very useful tips.

get  a good camera

Before we get into other technical details, let us put one very important fact out there for you to run through your mind. To create good photos you need to have a good camera! Thankfully though, the market is full of options nowadays and you can easily find a decent camera without breaking the bank. A lot of people also use mobile phone cameras and they are pretty good too. However, the level of detail and quality you will see in a DSLR will not be present in a phone camera.

This does not in any way mean that you cannot do this if you are using a mobile phone. There are many high-end phones nowadays that take incredibly beautiful photos. But given the prices of such phones, it is better to invest in a good camera instead if the only reason you are buying a high-end phone is for photography.

Editing Software

No one is perfect in the world of photography. Even with the most expensive cameras and equipment, your picture will probably need tweaking. This is why photo editing software is an indispensable tool for photographers. However, it is not necessary for you to shell out big bucks right away and buy industry-leading software like Photoshop and Lightroom. There are quite a few free photo editing applications that are sufficiently capable, at least for novice photographers. Software like Raw Therapee, PIXLR, GIMP etc. are some examples of incredibly capable editing software that don’t cost you anything to use.

Mobile phone photography has also reached a point where the need for a capable editing software has risen. You will find countless editing software that you can try, including mobile versions of Lightroom and Photoshop. However, there is one app that is consistently proving to be the application of choice for most mobile photographers and that is Snapseed by Google. This application is a surprisingly powerful editing tool and recently Google also added support for opening RAW photos on it.

Connecting with Stock Photo Sites

It requires a lot of effort and time to develop your own PR and bring yourself to the notice of the world. A lot of people don’t have that kind of patience and frankly, we don’t think that is the right approach anyway. Given the multitudes of platforms that run on crowdsourced images, you can easily jump on any platform you like. What this basically means is that you can share your photos to the many stock photo sites available online.

What they do is that they get a few samples from you in the beginning and if your quality of work meets their standards then they put your photos on their website for people to buy. For each time someone buys one of your photos, you end up getting a percentage of the earnings. This can practically go on forever and you will keep making money.

It is important to keep in mind the fact that you might also get rejected from a website. To deal with that, not only should you always share your best photos, you should also apply on multiple websites. This will expand your reach to the maximum audience and create a reasonable stream of income.

Social Media Publicity

Nowadays, social media has become the ultimate location for all kinds of information and services that people need. This also includes photos and Instagram is a platform that is exclusively made for photos. You can make a page for your business and promote your work directly to potential customers. A lot of professional photographers are actually making a decent income only by promoting themselves on social media.

As you begin to grow and gain popularity, you will also get the chance to improve both your skills and equipment. From that point onward, with the right drive, you will only climb up to more successes.
